Member of Parliament for Rumphi North Constituency Jappie Mhango has today launched a K50 million league to give young people in rural areas a platform to showcase talent in sports, music and culture.
Speaking during the launch, Mhango said the initiative will provide opportunities for youth across Rumphi North, an area stretching from Chiskemba to Livingston, to nurture their talents and build skills beyond the classroom.
In his remarks,League Administrator Maxwell Mhango said the competition has attracted 87 football teams and 66 netball teams from Livingstonia-Lura and Henga zones.In addition to football and netball, the league will also feature bao, choirs, and Mbotosya competitions to ensure cultural and artistic talents are also developed.
Senior Chief Mwalweni commended the initiative, saying it will keep young people productively engaged.Although the K50 million has been allocated for the activities, the league will run for a few months and conclude on December 10, 2026.
