Police in Rumphi are searching for a suspect who allegedly murdered Happy Mbewe, 18, at 4 Ways Trading Centre in Jaghala area on August 20, 2026 around 8:00 PM.
According to police, Mbewe and the suspect discovered they were in a relationship with the same girl. The two later met at a drinking joint at 4 Ways Trading Centre where an argument broke out and turned into a fight.
During the fight, the suspect allegedly struck Mbewe on the head with an object. Mbewe collapsed and was rushed to hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
A postmortem conducted on August 22, 2026 by police and hospital personnel established that the cause of death was severe head injury due to subdural hematoma.
Mbewe has since been laid to rest at Chikalamba Village, in the area of Traditional Authority Chikulamayembe in Rumphi District.
Police say investigations are ongoing to arrest the suspect.
